Film Festival Sponsors Local Student’s Field Trip to the Movies

The Santa Barbara International Film Festival’s annual “Mike’s Field Trip to the Movies” allows local students to see a film and ask questions to the filmmakers.

The event is named in honor of the late Mike DeGruy, a filmmaker from Santa Barbara who died in 2012 while shooting a movie.

Over 2,000 fourth, fifth, and sixth graders in Santa Barbara County will receive free transportation to a screening of the year’s top animated films followed by a question and answer segment with the directors.

This year 1,000 students were treated to “The Mitchell’s vs. The Machines” on Friday and this coming Thursday another 1,000 students will watch “Encanto.”

This year it is sponsored by the Bentson Foundation, Montecito Bank & Trust, Patagonia, Union Bank, and the Volentine Family Foundation.
