On Tuesday, August 16, Santa Barbara County Deputy District Attorney Layla Arshi secured a plea agreement for Kenneth Riley to spend 32 months in prison for his May crime.
On Thursday, May 10th at approximately 11:30 P.M., patrol officers responded to a report of a suspicious male subject in the Granada parking garage elevator.
Officers responded and contacted Kenneth Riley Jr., age 35. Riley was evasive in questioning and found to be in possession of an illegally-concealed knife. An investigation yielded elevator video that showed the suspect lurking in the elevator concealing himself in the corner of the elevator as he was peering outside the open door – with a knife behind his back.
While Riley was evasive in questioning at first, when confronted with the existence of video evidence, he provided an altered suspicious account. He was subsequently arrested for felony charges relating to the knife.

For waiting in an elevator in a manner CLEARLY looking like he is about to attack someone with the possibility of serious injury or death?
Was it “lying in wait” or was he running from someone (eg, self defense)? Doesn’t say. I’m just curious what the other charges were.
Then he should have said that, rather he seemed to give suspicious and conflicting accounts of why he was there.
Horsegirl – well, what did he tell you?
You really want to give the benefit of the doubt to a person hiding in an elevator at night with a large knife who has previously violently attacked someone with a deadly weapon in order to commit robbery?
No Horsegirl, I just want you to come out and admit you don’t know the circumstances better than any of us. You are assuming, based on “facts” from other commenters. I don’t know what happened or why he did it or what his priors were or what he was actually charged with. That’s why I asked.
I’m making no assumptions. I looked up his records on our local court website
The comment with his priors and current charges was my own
you know where to find him in 32 months…probably will serve only 8 months….
Over 2 years in prison for having an “illegally-concealed knife???” Did he commit any violent crimes or was he just in possession of a knife?
