On February 10, 2018, at approximately 0158 hours, a fatal traffic collision occurred on US-101 southbound, just south of Hope Ave. Moments prior to the collision, the involved Nissan Sentra was reported traveling wrong-way on US-101. The Nissan, which was reported traveling at freeway speed, was being driven northbound in the southbound #1 lane. All available California Highway Patrol (CHP) units responded. The driver allowed the front of the Nissan to collide with the concrete K-rail, which is positioned within the freeway median. The Nissan caught fire, which was put out by the first CHP officers who arrived on scene. The driver succumbed to his injuries at the scene. The driver’s information is releasable through the Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Office, Coroner’s Bureau after next of kin have been notified.
Traffic was light at the time of this collision. US-101 southbound, at this location, has three traffic lanes. The two left lanes were blocked for approximately 2.5 hours to investigate the collision and remove the vehicle. Traffic moved freely in the right lane without delay throughout the investigation.
So stupid! Also very grateful he didn’t kill anyone else.
According to the police report in the attachment the femal box is checked. Maybe hard to determine when a person is burned up.
