Fatal Crash on Highway 246 in Buellton

One person has died after their pickup truck collided with a tree on Highway 246.

At 1:12 a.m. Wednesday, Santa Barbara County firefighters responded to the 900 block of the State Route, just west of Buellton, and discovered a single vehicle collision.

A pickup truck appears to have veered off the roadway and struck a tree, causing a fire in the engine compartment.

One person was in the vehicle and pronounced dead on the scene. Their identity has yet to be released.

The roadway was reduced to one lane for a period of time.

The cause of the collision is under investigation.
