I stopped feeling bad for SB and their fire problem. Completely self inflicted
CHILLIN – you might be thinking of BASIC, I don’t think CONSERVATIVE has any trouble proudly announcing his right wing hate and evil, which is weird because as we all know….. “hate is [sic] only coming from one side.” So, maybe when you saw all that hate and malevolence, you assumed he was liberal. I get it, VOICE made it all very confusing with his proclamations of pure, 100%, absolute LIES.
CONSERVATIVESB – super nice of you. Glad you remembered the entire city of SB, from pets and homeowners to the mayor himself are completely responsible for the homeless fires. SB as a whole sure deserves its fate!
Good idea sac, Any incentives that could be offered to support this project would be great. Just image how great our community would look if every empty and overgrown island of land along the freeway were lovingly transformed into something special. There is tremendous potential in this.

Wood pallets, painted wood, pressure treated wood, couches, all types of plastics, vinyl, paper. When CalTrans goes in to clear out dead plant growth the homeless are in the way.
Personally I’d rather have the pollution from a shrubbery fire than a plastics, vinyl and human feces fire.
Numerous fires started by humans, numerous. Just a meter if time before another person dies in these fires. Last year a guy died in the Goleta wash from a fire while cooking dinner.
Humans are starting these brush fires. Almost lost homes last year in the tv hill fire. But this fire affected a large number of homes on the West Side as well.
Remove the humans. They are causing the danger in these camps and are themselves in danger.
In addition they are unable to provide and care for themselves.
Stop treating them like free range animals letting them do what they want and continuing to endanger themselves and others. They are humans.
Create government managed camps away from the dangers of drugs and violence. Where medical and counseling help can be administered regularly. Away from drug dealers, prostitution, sexual violence and violence in general.
After all Newsom taughts a large budget surplus. CA has one of the largest economies in the world and it can’t help its own people and it can’t educate its children.
Stop giving money on the freeway off-ramps. This City alone spends over $10,000,000 each year on services for the homeless in this area. If you keep providing money and food at freeway off-ramps they’ll keep hanging around and living in those areas.
SBLETSGETALONG is correct. Unfortunately the Government is committed to the idea that they must first prioritize getting all the “unhoused neighbors” into permanent housing. And to that end the massive Homeless, Inc. bureaucracy has arisen, sucking tax dollars and leaving the addicts to flounder in their “encampments” endangering themselves and others. It is simply NOT humane nor does it serve the majority of the citizens. They must be taken to a rehab facility and contained there, arrested and incarcerated for their crimes, or they must move on. Enough is enough.
Except we are not talking about public spaces. These are not hiking trails or the Sunken Gardens. These fires start on Cal Trans or Railroad controlled property. We need to create and enforce laws to get people out of the bushes. They need to plant landscaping which will still block the sight & sound of the freeway but is not easy to camp in. Instead of letting misdemeanor repeat offenders off they should be working off their debt to society on the side of the road like the old days. They can choose to do jail time or clean up the freeway.
Charge these homeless individuals with arson. When I was homeless I never ever started a campfire and put the community in danger. At nights during winter months I had ground protector, air mattress, sleeping bag, wore sweatshirt and sweatpants, and I was comfortable when it was around mid to upper 30’s. And always kept the area where I slept clean.
Caltrans already has an adopt a Highway program for litter cleanup! I think this could be expanded, or something similar could be implemented for landscape maintenance. In addition, the railroad actually gives people permits to collect abandoned cross ties and scrap materials from its property. There is no reason a similar program could not be established for landscaping. How cool would it be to design and create your dream garden/ landscape in a prominent, high visibility location and have a sign on it with your name or business similar to the adopt a Highway program. The program could even include competitions and awards to encourage and reward the most creative, challenging and best maintained landscapes. Instead of brush and dead weeds along the freeway, perhaps we could have succulent gardens, Japanese gardens, cactus and aloes, native plants, the sky is the limit. If we could make this happen, we would reduce the fire danger dramatically and our beautified freeway corridor and public spaces would become the envy of the rest of the state, as Santa Barbara ought to be.
