Emergency crews responded to a report of an unconscious hiker on Inspiration Point trail on Sunday.

At 9:45 a.m., Santa Barbara County Search and Rescue (SAR) teams, County Firefighters, and an AMR ambulance arrived at the trailhead off Tunnel Road.

Firefighters and SAR made contact with the male patient and learned he was suffering from fainting spells. Crews packaged and transported the patient down the trail in a rescue basket with a wheel.

The patient was in a stable condition and was transported by AMR ground ambulance to Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital for further evaluation. He was later released, reports SAR.

“We want to remind those hitting the trails that if you’re lost or in need of medical attention please do not hesitate calling 911. There is no charge for rescue and that should never be a limiting factor when determining a need for help,” SAR states.

  1. What a scary experience for his hiking companions. Another great example of the critical need of the SAR team. Thank goodness people are aware of and use their services.
