Sant Barbara County firefighters responded to an emergency call near More Mesa on Wednesday afternoon.
Crews arrived at 12:28 p.m, and discovered a victim on the beach below the More Mesa cliff. Initial reports stated the man fell from the cliff but Santa Barbara County Fire Captain Daniel Bertucelli said that turned out to be false.
A middle-aged man was suffering from a large laceration to his neck. Paramedics treated him on the scene and he was transported to Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital by a Ventura County Fire helicopter for further treatment.
The Santa Barbara County Fire Department is calling the incident a behavioral emergency.

Hearing scanner traffic about someone jumping or falling from the cliffs at More Mesa. County fire department staging at Mockingbird Lane, haven’t heard anything else though. Anyone else chime in?

Yep, Billy’s fleet couldn’t even respond but VCFD’s ’70s vintage single engine Huey Copter 8 handled it. My good friend retired 10 years ago from there having flown over 30 years with Copters 8 and 9.

That’s because the public officials are supposed to be held accountable they’re not held accountable to anybody They fly a lot of Calstar out of Lompoc and Santa Maria down here to cottage hospital (gang related injuries or DUI’s victims) but when somebody needs it around here oh wow it’s not working
Thanks to Ventura County for helping out. However, some awareness training between Santa Barbara and Ventura might be helpful. The copter came into the neighborhood without using the established Pueblo flight corridor, and had to make a u-turn to land on the Cottage helipad from the opposite direction. Not complaining. Just observing that they didn’t appear to be familiar with the location of the hospital.
@WINTER.. “we just don’t have the resource for mental health..” You CAN’T be serious…! Santa Barbara County has more “mental heatlh” employees and resources than any County in the country of this size and population… Go check out the SB County’s HR department and see how many positions they employ in the “mental health” field- Go find out how many housing units are in the County, specifically from the SB Housing Authority, go to “mental health housing”… Our Social Welfare is overflowing with employees and costs for “those in need…”

So very unfortunate and unfair. This country seriously needs to focus our funds on HEALTHCARE FOR ALL, including mental healthcare. We’d all be so much better off, it would solve so many other problems, but the U.S. is a petulant child when it comes to fixing big problems.
