About 61% of Santa Barbara County residents age 16 and above have received at least one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine.
Santa Barbara County Public Health Director Dr. Van Do-Reynoso stated it’s “indeed a happy day” as she confirmed the statistics. Of the 61% who received at least one dose, 45% are fully vaccinated.
Additionally, there’s only a 7% appointment no-show for people getting their second dose, remarkably lower than what’s seen throughout the country, she said.
Approximately 8 in 10 residents aged 65 and above have received at least one dose of the vaccine, however, only 4 in 10 of residents between ages 16-29 have received at least one dose.
Public Health Officer Dr. Henning Ansorg stated the age groups with the most positive COVID-19 tests were those under 18 years of age followed by those between 20-30. He confirmed there have been several outbreaks throughout high schools in the county relating to athletic programs and unsanctioned parties.
The vaccine supply in the county is now plentiful and anyone age 16 or over can walk into any clinic or most pharmacies and receive their vaccination.
Dr. Do-Reynoso is anticipating emergency approval for the Pfizer vaccine to be administered to anyone 12 years of age and older.
Santa Barbara County remains in the orange tier according to the state’s “Blueprint for a Safer Economy.” The county’s case rate per 100,000 population is between 3.8 and 4, where less than 2 is needed to reach the least restrictive yellow tier.
Only Los Angeles County has met the metrics to reach the yellow tier in all of Southern California. Dr. Do-Reynoso does not anticipate Santa Barbara County reaching this goal before Governor Newsom lifts all tier restrictions on June 15.

Is it really just 45% of the 61% with at least one shot who have been fully vaccinated? That’s only 27.5% of everyone, which is a lot less than 45%. Come on now people, you don’t even need an appointment!

…you’ll get the shot. I got it, but I’m around the elderly all day long. I don’t really do anything differently than I did before. But yeah, there’s no real reason, other than becoming a complete pariah in the eyes of the vaccinated, to do it.
We’re doing way better than the country as a whole.
