Earth Day Mural Call For Entries

Calling Santa Barbara County artists! We invite you to submit your artistic concepts to the Earth Day Mural Call For Entries hosted in partnership by The Arts Fund, Community Environmental Council, Museum of Contemporary Art Santa Barbara, Paseo Nuevo, and Santa Barbara BCycle.

The theme of this year’s Earth Day Festival is Climate Leadership. The event celebrates key areas where climate leaders are stepping up to do the critical work needed to combat the climate crisis. Santa Barbara County artists are invited to submit a proposal for a mural that expresses what Earth Day and Climate Leadership mean to you. We are inspired by the leadership of Amanda Gorman, the National Youth Poet Laureate, and her poem Earthrise from 2018.

One concept will be selected to appear on the Paseo Nuevo Arts Terrace Parking Deck, on the exterior wall of Museum of Contemporary Art Santa Barbara. The selected artist, or artist group, will receive a stipend and a materials budget to paint their mural between April 19-23, 2021. Support for painting the mural will be provided by the project partners. The completed mural will be revealed on the final day of the virtual Earth Day Festival, April 24!

SUBMISSION GUIDELINES

Application Deadline: Wednesday, March 31, 2021, 5 pm PST.
This project is open to all artists living and working in Santa Barbara County.
This is an opportunity for emerging and professional artists to showcase original artwork. Individual artists and artist groups are both eligible, though groups must submit one application.
Think outside the box! We are looking for innovative concepts that utilize the wall space creatively and complement the location.
Commercial advertising, copyrighted images, hate speech, offensive images, and profanity are prohibited. Images must be suitable for all ages.

To submit your concept please include:

Artist Biography
Two samples of past artwork.
A minimum of 2 samples of your Earth Day Mural concept.
Your Earth Day Mural concept statement, including any past experience creating murals, and your preferred materials.

Important Dates

Application Deadline: Wednesday, March 31, 2021, 5pm PST.
The selected artist, or artist group, must be available for planning and executing the mural between April 19-23, 2021.
The completed mural will be revealed to the public on Saturday, April 24, 2021, on the final day of the virtual Santa Barbara Earth Day Festival.
