The Earl Warren Showgrounds Board of Directors agreed to partner with the local equine evacuation team on their equestrian facility renovation.
The Board of Directors unanimously approved a board resolution on Thursday formalizing the partnership with Santa Barbara Equine Assistance and Evacuation Team to implement a phased renovation plan for the equestrian center at Earl Warren Showgrounds.
The phased improvements will address critical needs and prepare the facility to host multiple equestrian events during the 2020 show season and beyond. All improvements are anticipated to not only improve the condition of the equestrian facility but that of the entire grounds with the goal of ensuring that Earl Warren becomes a long-term sustainable facility.
The resolution empowers Equine Evacuation board member Karen Christensen to manage and execute the renovation with the oversight and approval of Earl Warren Showgrounds CEO Ben Sprague, with input from an equestrian advisory committee and the EWS staff.
The project will be funded through community donations made to nonprofit organization Santa Barbara Equine Assistance and Evacuation Team. The fundraising goal is $750,000 with $300,000 already raised. Work on the project will begin almost immediately and will continue the fundraising effort.
