Santa Barbara County District Attorney Joyce E. Dudley announced today that [Eric Mauricio] Ramirez-Aguilar, a 41-year-old resident of Santa Barbara, California was sentenced to 15 years in State Prison for vehicular manslaughter.
On December 8, 2021, the defendant pled guilty as charged to felony gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated, driving while under the influence causing great bodily injury, and fleeing
the scene of an accident that resulted in death.
The charges stemmed from a double vehicular manslaughter that occurred on February 9, 2020. On that date, Mary Jane Corral and her husband Adolfo Corral, parents of four, were out walking their dog on Cathedral Oaks Road at 5:20 p.m. Mr. Ramirez-Aguilar, who was intoxicated at the time, swerved off the road while driving his Nissan sedan, struck and killed the couple, and subsequently fled the area.
The Honorable Judge Pauline Maxwell pronounced the 15 year sentence after hearing from numerous family members, friends and colleagues. The defendant faced a maximum sentence of 17 years 8 months in State Prison.
District Attorney Joyce Dudley stated, “Unfortunately, the loss of Mary Jane and Adolfo Corral, who were loved by their community, will be felt forever. The defendant was held accountable in this case due to the outstanding work, dedication and corroboration between the Santa Barbara Sheriff’s Department and the prosecution team led by Senior Deputy District Attorney Kevin Weichbrod.”
