This is an update to the traffic collision that occurred on Sunday November 6th, at approximately 8 p.m at the intersection of Alvin and Blosser.
During the course of the investigation, it was discovered there were three children in the victim’s vehicle. Two of the children, ages 10 and 2, were transported to Marian Hospital for medical treatment, however, they succumbed to their injuries and were pronounced as deceased.
The suspect was identified as Hector Romero Escobar (30 year-old resident of Santa Maria). He was booked into Santa Barbara County Jail for 187(a)PC – Murder: Non-negligent Manslaughter, and Felony Driving Under the Influence.

On Sunday November 6th, at approximately 8 p.m. , Santa Maria Police Officers responded to a major injury traffic collision at the intersection of Alvin and Blosser.
Upon investigation, officers discovered two vehicles were involved. In vehicle one, the sole occupant/ driver (an adult male) was found to be driving under the influence of alcohol during the collision and was arrested for DUI.
In vehicle two, two adults (parents) male and a female sustained major injuries. Their three children (all under the age of 10) were ejected from the vehicle. The parents were treated at Marian Hospital for injuries and the three children were flown to an outside area hospital to be treated for major injuries.
It appears alcohol is a factor in the collision. This is an ongoing investigation. If anyone has further information or witnessed the collision, we are asking you call the Santa Maria Police department at 805-928-3781and ask to speak to an Officer in the Traffic Unit.
The fact that he was charged with murder- 187pc indicates this is not his first DUI. It’s called a Watson Murder. Regardless of the circumstances that led to the children being ejected from the vehicle, I support reinstituting tying him to four wild horses.
