Edhat StaffCameron Wesley Oliver will receive a life sentence for driving under the influence resulting in the death of two women, announced Santa Barbara County District Attorney Joyce Dudley.
Oliver, 26, was driving his vehicle on Highway 135 in Orcutt at a high rate of speed on February 6, 2017 when it veered off the roadway, crashed through a fence, collided with a concrete bench, and rolled over.
There were three other passengers in the vehicle. Leann Stauffer, 37 from Santa Maria, was pronounced dead at the scene and Tricia Jensen, 37 from Santa Maria, died days later in the hospital. The third passenger was also injured but survived the crash.
According to one report, Oliver was driving over 125 mph and had a blood-alcohol level exceeding 0.19 percent. This was Oliver’s second DUI arrest.
Today, Oliver entered a guilty plea to Second Degree Murder; Gross Vehicular Manslaughter while Intoxicated; and Assault with Force Likely to Cause Great Bodily Injury. Dudley stated, “A life sentence is the appropriate sentence in this heartbreaking case”.
Oliver will return to court on April 9, 2018, in Dept. 7 of the Santa Maria Superior Court, at which time he will be sentenced to 24 years to life in State Prison.
Great. Hope Dudley recommends the same sentence to the pos that ran the 91 year old over.
Realistically, what does “24 years to life” mean? I’ll be surprised if he even serves 10 years. That’s just how things are these days.
