A motorist required air transport to the hospital Tuesday morning following a vehicle collision near Los Alamos.
At 7:13 a.m., Santa Barbara County firefighters responded to Highway 101 northbound, approximately two miles north of the Highway 154 offramp.
Crews discovered a vehicle had crashed approximately 20-feet over the side of the roadway. The vehicle sustained major damage and the solo female occupant required extrication from the vehicle.
The California Highway Patrol (CHP) reports Aubriana Aguirre, 27 of San Luis Obispo, was driving her 2013 Honda Civic northbound when for unknown reasons allowed the vehicle to veer right off the roadway and collided with an oak tree.
Aguirre sustained major injuries. CalStar 7 arrived on the scene and transported the patient to Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital, navigating through dynamic storm cloud coverage in the Santa Barbara south coast, said Fire Captain Scott Safechuck.
Safechuck added this was a well coordinated effort to get the patient definitive care.
CHP reports drugs and alcohol are not suspected.
“Please drive safe, more rain and storms to come,” Safechuck said.
