On Thursday, June 1st, 2023 shortly after 1:00 pm, Santa Maria Police Department officers and EMS responded to Mahoney Road (approximately ½ mile North of Black Road) for a major traffic collision.
Officers on scene immediately summoned the assistance of the Traffic Unit to take over the investigation. In total three vehicles were involved in the collision. Four involved people were taken to local hospitals.
On Tuesday, June 13th, 2023 the Traffic Unit was notified by the Santa Barbara County Coroner’s Office that one of the injured parties had died while still in the hospital being treated for their injuries as a result of this collision.
The decedent is identified as Leticia Rivera Aguilar (59) a resident of Santa Maria, CA.
The SMPD Traffic Unit is continuing to investigate this collision and would like to remind all drivers to use caution on our roadways.
