On Monday, September 14, C.A. Rasmussen, Inc., will begin constructing a 2.6 mile long, multiuse path for bicyclists, runners, and pedestrians separated from high-speed vehicle traffic along Las Positas and Modoc Roads. This Vision Zero project will start construction at Calle de los Amigos along Modoc Road and work towards Las Positas Road and down to the roundabout at Cliff Drive. The project will connect the beach, schools, parks, and commercial centers with the community along the Pacific Coastal and Crosstown Bike Routes.
Traffic control and temporary delays should be expected. Access will be maintained for residents, although temporary disruptions should be anticipated while construction is taking place. The entire project will be constructed in phases and will last approximately 18 months. Work will occur Monday through Friday between 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
The project is funded primarily through Active Transportation Program grant funds in addition to local Measure C funds for local matching costs. Click here to subscribe and stay informed on updates regarding this transformative project.
Never have had an issue riding on Modoc or Las Positas the thousands of times I ride that route. Have not felt unsafe or in danger any time of day. Seems like a lot of money for nothing.
Las Positas is scary. When I run on it (rarely), it’s super dangerous. And of course, a woman was hit by a car there (while running) and died (several years ago). Riding along Modoc can be a real pain early in the morning because of the parked cars. And during school drop off (when we could do that), it was fairly dangerous with all of the students and cyclists and impatient drivers. I saw a lot of close calls when dropping my kid off.
My family and are thrilled about the Modoc bike path. Hopefully it will one day link up to the cross walk at Modoc and Encore. Regardless, what is sorely needed is a proper electric/solar cross walk warning sign at that corner.
Letmego: If you find Las Positas uncomfortable to run on, don’t do it. Really should we pay huge amounts of money so you can run there instead of in a safe venue (maybe SBCC track for example)? How presumptuous you folks are.
