As reported in the January 21 issue of Edhat, Chuck McPartlin reported on the appearance of Comet C/2022 E3 in the northern sky during the early morning. As he reported: “Since this comet is really being hyped lately, be aware that it won’t be showing the greenish color visually, just in photographs. Even at its brightest, it will only be visible as a small smudge with averted vision from a dark site.”
So, with that useful information in hand, I attempted to make a color photograph of it using a backyard telescope with a 5-inch lens. The resulting image did indeed have a green glow as shown in this 15 second exposure made shortly after 5:00am on January 24.
