The Coast Guard medevaced a 31-year-old diver from a vessel near Santa Barbara Island, Tuesday.

At approximately 11:03 a.m., a person aboard the 78-foot recreational sport fishing vessel, Alessa Leigh, contacted Coast Guard Sector Los Angeles-Long Beach reporting a 31-year-old diver experiencing symptoms of decompression sickness.

After consulting with the duty flight surgeon, watchstanders at Sector Los Angeles-Long Beach dispatched a Coast Guard MH-65 Dolphin helicopter crew from Forward Operating Base Point Mugu to respond.

The aircrew arrived on scene, hoisted the man and transported him to the University of Southern California Catalina Hyperbaric Chamber.
