The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) announces that southbound U.S. 101 off-ramp at Seacliff will be closed from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Saturday until summer 2023. The Seacliff on-ramp to southbound U.S. 101 also will be closed intermittently. The purpose is to provide large trucks carrying concrete access to a batch plant yard. Motorists can expect delays.
The work is part a $48 million pavement rehabilitation project — including $5.5 million in funding from Senate Bill 1 (SB 1), the Road Repair and Accountability Act of 2017 — on a 4.3-mile section of U.S. 101 from Padre Juan Canyon Road near Faria Beach to Punta Gorda near Mussel Shoals in Ventura County. Project details can be found at: https://dot.ca.gov/caltrans-near-me/district-7/district-7-projects/d7-101-pavement-rehabilitation.
What the work involves:
- Pavement rehabilitation is currently focused on two right lanes and shoulder of southbound U.S. 101 in the work zone. The left southbound lane remains open on the coastal side of U.S. 101. A second southbound lane on U.S. 101 just past Mussel Shoals crosses over the median to the northbound side of the highway and extends more than four miles to Faria Beach. Known as a bypass lane, it will remain in place until January 2023.
- Two right northbound lanes remain open from Faria Beach to Mussel Shoals. When pavement rehabilitation is completed on the southbound lanes, a similar northbound bypass lane will be installed for an additional nine months to complete pavement rehabilitation on the two right northbound lanes of U.S. 101.
All work is subject to change due to weather or construction-related issues. Residents and businesses located near the freeway may experience noise, vibrations and dust associated with construction activities. Closures may start and end later. Signs will be posted. Real-time traffic information can be found at http://quickmap.dot.ca.gov/.
Caltrans reminds drivers to “Be Work Zone Alert” and to “Slow for the Cone Zone.”
Hopefully that will decrease the crowds at Mondos.
