By the City of Santa Barbara
The Public Works Downtown Team is excited to announce the “Locals’ Weekender Parking Permit,” making shopping and dining in downtown Santa Barbara easier and more affordable for residents of Santa Barbara County.
Permits will be on sale starting Monday, August 21st. This exclusive permit costs $100 and is valid for six months of weekend parking. Locals can use the permit to park in any of the City of Santa Barbara’s Downtown Parking lots every Saturday and Sunday without paying parking fees.
Applicants will be required to provide one of the following items for proof of residency in Santa Barbara County to purchase a permit:
-
Current (past 60 days) utility bill showing applicant’s name and eligible mailing address (not service address).
-
Proof of home ownership or active lease agreement at an eligible address in the applicant’s name.
-
Valid vehicle registration or driver’s license showing eligible address and applicant’s name.
Purchase your permit online by visiting: SantaBarbaraCA.gov/WeekenderPermit
Smart locals know where to park for free.
Sounds like a good deal for people that work downtown at places that don’t have employee parking.
The city: Spends millions on underpass facelift involving an architect with special design privileges most of us could never dream of
Also the city:
I’m local and buy an annual Beach parking pass each year for $120, going up to $130 next year. Parking is $2.50 per hour now, going up to $3.00 next year. If you only park an hour per week it’s worth getting an annual pass. I can park in any beach lot, except for Stern’s wharf, all day. Strangely, when I do park in a downtown lot, the attendants always wave me through when exiting when they see the decal on the windshield.
Interesting! It suggests as though they are going to get rid of the free Sunday street parking!?!
I didn’t know that locals still went downtown. Should be a real money maker for the City.
Weekends are when most locals DONT go downtown. If they offered a park in any lot at any time pass then I’d definitely consider that!
Not sure who would buy this. Locals know the tricks to spend little on parking.
It’s called an AXXESS card
Beyond the AXXESS card. That is limited to certain businesses and usually only a one-time discount. Funny, you telling me to “give it a damn rest” yet here you are arguing with every single word I type. More BASIC hypocrisy as usual.
What they should do instead (since we all know where to park for free), is do a Locals Discount card. Get a discount on activities (kayak rentals, etc) and food/drink downtown.
I know! Talk about out of touch. How many locals actually ever need to pay ANYTHING for parking?? City higher-ups struggling to figure out what they’re doing. Lol…
We pay for parking if we go to the movies at Fiesta 5. That’s about it. We don’t go to enough movies to make $100/ 6 months to be worth it.
In addition of the fee of 0.3% on all revenues downtown businesses need to the city to paid for “Parking Assessment”
HAHAHAHA! I wonder who would buy this.
I can’t see any reason to spend $100 for 6 months of weekend only parking. There isn’t that much to do downtown anymore, unless you practically live at bars and restaurants. And it only helps weekend workers.
