On December 28, 2023, the City of Santa Barbara’s waterfront was hit by powerful high surf posing a threat to beachgoers and coastal infrastructure.

The impact on the Santa Barbara waterfront was particularly felt in the harbor business area and the Harbor West Parking Lot, which was filled with an accumulation of sand and debris.

Over the New Year’s weekend, dedicated crews from the Waterfront, Parks & Recreation, and Public Works Departments demonstrated exceptional commitment by putting in extra hours to restore the affected areas, ensuring the safety and functionality of the waterfront for businesses, residents, and visitors.

Their hard work and determination over the holiday weekend and through the New Year exemplify their strong sense of duty and service to the community. Harbor Way was restored, and the Harbor West Parking Lot was opened, on Wednesday, January 3rd.
