By the California Highway Patrol (CHP)
The California Highway Patrol Buellton area will be implementing traffic control measures on Figueroa Mountain Road in Santa Ynez to address safety concerns, stemming from visitors, eager to see this years “Super Bloom”.
Over the past several weeks, we have seen a dramatic increase in the number of vehicles parking along the narrow highway to access hiking trails or get a glimpse of the beautiful flowers along the hillside at the top of the mountain. Although we understand the attraction, it has raised safety concerns for motorists, cyclists and pedestrians crossing the roadway as well as access for emergency vehicles should an emergency occur.
Safety measures will include increased patrol, parking restrictions, and intermittent road closures to non-area residents on Saturdays and Sundays between the hours of 10 AM and 3 PM as necessary to alleviate traffic.
We are asking residents for assistance by limiting visits to the location during the above hours when feasible.
When parking along the roadway to access hiking trails, please ensure ALL 4 TIRES ARE OFF THE ROADWAY and DO NOT PARK AROUND CURVES which may lower visibility to oncoming traffic or cyclists.
We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause; however, public safety is of our utmost concern. We will continue to work with the Department of Forestry and County Roads to monitor the situation and/or develop alternatives options.
Thank you for your understanding and patience.
If you have any questions or concerns, please contact the Buellton CHP at (805)688-5551.
NIMBYs or is this an actual issue?
It was pretty gas on the west end of the road when I was up there a week ago. That road just isn’t wide enough for the kind of traffic it’s seeing during the bloom.
Meat to say pretty bad. Autocorrect.
