CHP Officer Performs One Doggone Rescue on Highway 101

This week California Highway Patrol officers went above and beyond to rescue a small dog on Highway 101.

Sgt. Dylan Youngblood, Officers Jason Traughber and Gabriel Zucker, responded to the southbound highway lanes at Main Street in Santa Maria on Monday.

They discovered motorists attempting to help a small chihuahua mix trapped on the highway.

“Their mission? To rescue a pint-sized, gold-colored chihuahua from a potentially ruff situation with the help of compassionate citizens,” reports to the CHP’s Facebook page.

The officers were able to safely capture the pup without any injuries.

“Kudos to these guardians of the highways for proving that protecting and serving extends to our four-legged friends too!” the Facebook page states.

The social media post garnered a lot of praise from local residents, even people who witnessed part of the heroic efforts.

“I was on the freeway and saw your amazing efforts to save this dog! Thank you for the update! I have been worried/wondering ever since he ended up on Stowell,” wrote Beth Ralston.

Traffic was backed up in the area for a short period of time during the rescue.
