Chemical Spill Response to State Street Marshall’s

By Geo Duarte

Chemical spill inside Marshall’s on State Street on Sunday afternoon.

Santa Barbara fire department were the 1st to arrive. The fire chief was asking people to leave the building. Some people that came out from Marshall’s reported feeling dizzy. The fire chief asked them to please remain while they waited for paramedics to arrive.

Fire crews re entered the building  Wednesday had put on  Respiratory protective gear including oxygen tank. They found a water bottle with some possibly green liquid that may be the source of the chemical agent.

UPDATE:

Update, the green water bottle turned out to be nothing. One of the EMT’s stated they think it may have been someone who may have let off some pepper spray.  The has been cleared, business is back to usual at Marshall’s.

EMT’s did stick around for about 40 minutes to make sure that anyone feeling dizzy was assessed.  The Santa Barbara fire department used instruments to detect what chemicals were in the air they apparently found nothing of concern.

Another bystander believes it was some kind of aerosol spray that was not scented properly.
