A popular gourmet cheese shop in downtown Santa Barbara has closed its doors after 16 years due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Located at 825 Santa Barbara Street, C’est Cheese offered a variety of cheeses, meats, and specialty food items.
In 2013 the shop expanded by opening a cafe to offer breakfast, lunch, and in-room dining. The cafe closed in 2017 following the Thomas Fire and 1/9 Debris Flow.
A letter was posted on their website stating:
To our C’est Cheese family,
As many of you know, we had a big set back a few years ago during the Thomas Fire and resulting mudslides. Ever since, we have been working to recover from its impact, but the current pandemic has been more than we can overcome. We hung on as long as we could, but unfortunately the time has come for us to close our doors. With a heavy heart, we regret to inform you that Saturday, July 18th, was C’est Cheese’s last day in business.
Thank you everyone for all of the support and love that you have given us over the years. We never imagined how fulfilling our lives would become when we decided to open up our little cheese shop 16 years ago and for that we are forever grateful. It has been a pleasure and an honor to be a part of this community.

We are sorry to see our local businesses and families suffer because if “Covid procedures” and ludicrous metrics.
Our City chose to close Coast Village Road to clean up the debris flow despite CVR not being in the flood area forcing businesses to be closed. Because it was not a mandatory evacuation area businesses could not file insurance claims. The clean up could have been staged elsewhere.
Now our govt is shutting us down for 4,991 positive cases out of 445,000 residents 1.12%
32 deaths out of 445,000 people.

7.6% positive testing rate. Below the 10% threshold
Why are the businesses & schools closed? Science and statistics do not support the closures.
This is one more nail in the Business Life Coffin while the local governments discuss street names, political correctness (which is irrational), their desire for unlimited housing without more parking, lax rules for dealing with homelessness, and gangs and ways to generate more revenue with new COVID licenses to operate–Tourist will get this negligence soon enough. Meanwhile–pensions galore in 6 figures for “contracting out” core business and calling that local business.
