World Oceans Day is celebrated on June 8 every year across the globe, and the theme this year is Revitalization: Collective Action of the Ocean.
Heal the Ocean has been working on the revitalization of the ocean concept on a local level by focusing on many pollution sources, including: faulty wastewater infrastructure, removal of abandoned homeless camps from watershed areas, capping leaking oil wells, pulling wrecked boats off our beaches, going after polluted groundwater that intermixes with the ocean – and more.
We’re able to do this with the generous help of our donors and field workers, and we will be increasing Revitalization efforts in the years to come.
The concept of World Oceans Day was first proposed by the UN in 1992 at the Earth Summit in Rio de Janeiro. It was suggested that a day be observed to raise awareness about the crucial role oceans play in our lives and ways in which people can help protect them.
The purpose of the day is to raise awareness among people about the “impact of human actions on the ocean” and to mobilize citizens for their sustainable management. Over the years, there has been a 90 percent depletion of big fish populations and 50 percent destruction of coral reefs due to reckless human activities.
Thank you for your help,

P.S. While we’re doing the serious work, the ‘Great Wave’ drink has been offered to us as a fundraising help throughout June by Finch & Fork Santa Barbara! Have one of these Great Wave cocktails, and a portion comes back to us!
