Can anyone identify this caterpillar? I’ve found the gulf fritillary in the same area as this one but this looks different.

Looks like Nymphalis antiopa: The Mourning Cloak Butterfly
Wow. Lucky you, to have Mourning cloaks nearby. I LOVE these butterflies. Here’s a list of plants that these caterpillars feed on. I hope you can return the caterpillar to one of them. If the ‘pillar is ready to go into chrysalis, it will soon find its way to a suitable spot: “The caterpillar of the mourning cloak feeds in groups on the leaves of deciduous trees, including the willow, elm, hackberry, aspen, cottonwood, poplar, rose, birch, hawthorne, and mulberry.” (@SOAPBOX: Great job with the i.d.)
Hmm, I found this at work and I don’t believe we have any of those trees on site… weird.
