Were you aware that the Carpinteria Unified School District has released their proposed budget for next school year. On page 23 (Budget Reductions) of this 100+ page document you can find that the School District is Suggesting that all Instructional Assistants (Not Special Education) should be cut from their Middle and High School, and that all 4 of their Library/Media Tech (Librarian) positions should be cut to 50%!!!
What has happened to NOT cutting educational staff that works with our children? The Carp School Board should find a way to cut staff that do not have direct, face-to-face, daily contact with students. These positions while not Teachers, are just one more adult touchstone that help students understand that they are cared for, that their thoughts are heard, and that their needs are important!
I really hope that the Carpinteria School Board reconsiders their hurtful cuts. Let’s support Carpinteria’s Students and keep Carp schools Safe by keeping the Physical Education Aides; Let’s support Carpinteria’s English Language Learners by keeping their schools accessible by keeping their ELD (English Language Development) Aides; and last but not least let’s help ensure that kids in Carpinteria still have all day access to their libraries, keep promoting reading, life-long-learning, and having access to computers by keeping their Librarian/Media Techs!!!
Please let the Carpinteria School Board know how you feel about these developments!
Go back to the days when schools consisted of a principal, teachers, a secretary, a couple of staffers grounds keeper, and a janitor. Too many people outside of the classroom work for the school district.
Lot of uninformed comments. Carpinteria is a Basic Aid school district because of Padaro Lane and Rincon and other beachfront homes. It receives more revenue per student than just about any other school district in the State of California. The current problems are the result of decades of government by right wing Republicans whose primary goal was to keep property taxes for themselves and their family members as low as possible. Those days are about to be over. For the first time in the school district’s history we have a reasonalbe and very competent financial executive who is doing what she has to, to right the ship. Give her a chance and vote in November. There are 3 Board seats up for election.
Under the new-found “Trumpism” reality – important personnel and programs are cut everywhere –
without consideration as to what will actually be effected. If it positively affects the bottom line, some don’t seem to care if the baby gets thrown out with the bath water.
Horrible!! If we truly want to make “America Great Again” then education is the place to start. It’s deplorable how poorly our children are educated.
