Carmen “Carmelita” Nuñez Torres, of Chandler, Arizona, passed away peacefully in her sleep on Sunday, January 21, 2018, at her home in Santa Barbara, CA. Carmen was born in Guadalajara, Mexico on July 16, 1936 to Angela Prieto and Antonio Ruiz Nuñez.
When she was 16 years old, she moved to the US with her sister, Ramona, to work as a migrant farm laborer traveling from state to state, where she would meet and marry her husband, Pedro Torres Sr. She settled down to raise her family in Chandler, AZ, where she would go on to spend most of her life.
She is survived by her sister, Ernestina, and children, Rosa (Ray), Pedro (Pauline), Christina (Luis), Maria, and Angela (Ricky), and her 12 grandchildren and 18 great-grand children. She is preceded in death by her sister, Ramona, and her sons, Jesus Antonio and Alberto, and grandson, Jesus.
A mass will be held on Wednesday, 1/24 at 10am at Our Lady of Sorrows Church in Santa Barbara.
A viewing will be held on Friday, 1/26 from 6pm-8pm at Bueler Chandler Mortuary & Chapel, with the Rosary starting at 7pm.
The burial will take place on Saturday, 1/27 at 10am at The Valley of the Sun Mortuary & Cemetery in Chandler, AZ.
