Capa Perrell

Capa Perrell
1956 – 2019

“CP Thats me!” is what Capa Perrell, an absolute original, had embossed on the leather jacket he wore for years.

Capa died in Oak Park on July 4, 2019 at 63.

Martin Barnagat was his legal name, but he only used it if he had to. Capa spent most of his life in Santa Barbara and preferred Mission and Rattlesnake canyons, where he was raised. At Santa Barbara High, Capa excelled on the varsity football squad as a tackle. Though fierce athletically, Capa was a shy, gentle soul. He could fix just about anything and was great in construction until schizophrenia took hostage of his fine mind at age 19.

Due to tragic and unfathomable family dynamics along with schizophrenia, Capa became homeless about five years ago. He did not want and could not live in shelters and preferred the open sky.

We will miss Capa for his near-genius, insights, observations, predictions, humor, and love.

We seldom saw you these last few years, but we will miss you intensely for the rest of our lives. As Pa would kid you, we will too: “Capa Dapa Do” we love you! Thank you for the gracing our lives. PEACE Capa, see you on the other side.
