Cannabis Campaign Contributions in Assembly Race

By an edhat reader

With the Board of Supervisors race focused on the cannabis industry, past decisions that may have been influenced by it and other special interest groups, I’m wondering if voters are also just as concerned by campaign contributions to those in the Assembly District? Would your vote change if you knew one of the candidate took thousands from someone in the cannabis industry or another special interest group? If so, which are your most concerned about: cannabis, unions/labor, developers, large property owners, or other special interest group?

  1. Last election, Das received over $100k from Indian Casino Tribes from ALL OVER THE STATE and is obviously supported by Cannabis Inc. and the Local Public Safety Unions… He has no shame and will take money from any organization to remain a CAREER POLITICIAN… that is his entire exsistence.

  2. Any idea when the candidates have to disclose their financial contributions, Coastwatch? Hopefully, it’s before the election. From everything I’ve read, seen & heard, Das has been raking in the highly questionable contributions from far away to get his body onto the BOS. Why is that? What do they expect to get with that? Can it also be assumed these entities are also pouring the same dollars into other BOS campaigns? If so, who? Thanks

  3. @ 2:02- What do these contributors expect to get from their donations? Camp 4 fee to trust, a lax cannabis ordinance and higher density housing, all issues Das ushered into our county. Thank you Supervisor Williams for continuing to go against what your constituents want.

  4. In this day and age wouldn’t you think that the people who are classified into one of these categories: cannabis, unions, developers, large property owners, and the remaining special interest groups would be stupid to only be invested in one of these categories. In this day and age, people that have money are invested in all these categories collectively. Politics is about money and power.

  5. Nice, accuse people who are friends of the Capps family of being “dirty money”. You can google those names if you want to know more about them. But your posts are not about information, but about smearing, right? Will never vote for Das again.

  6. The back room deal making between this pack of revolving door candidates should send chills up everyone’s spine – Das Williams and Monque Limon cut a deal over who will run for state senator to replace Taxin Jackson. Gregg Hart immediately ditches his city council seat, forces a special election just to keep his face in our faces on the county board of supervisors. Hot bunks – that is your Democrat career political establishment for you. Monique Limon crammed down every aggressive dense housing and rent control mandates on us and then claims she is running to replace Taxin Jackson based upon her “experience”. C’mon people, open the windows and let in some fresh air. If you see a “D” for Democrat after a candidate’s name, send them packing. It is simply not healthy to keep being a one-party town nor a one-party state.

  7. Term limits let the teachers unions move in and take over, installing very willing revolving door candidates to follow other termed out candidates, who know nothing, stand for nothing, but know how to listen to the teacher union bosses tell them what to do and how to vote. Murillo’s is just one more revolving door teacher union shill, who will be more than happy to keep California schools bottoming out at #45 nationwide and keeping those classrooms filled by any means necessary. Imagine an industry that has to fill all the kindergarten classrooms with new crops of students every single year- or else teacher union members would lose their jobs and teacher union bosses would lose their dues. This makes the teacher union agenda in this state very strange indeed – they just need bodies, and lots of them to keep up the flow of teacher union dues. Outcomes for students don’t matter, just bodies to keep classrooms filled and teacher union dues flowing into one more round of willing candidates that keeps this scheme going and does not ask any questions. Children in our obviusly failing K-12 system are merely widgets to justify the never-ending flow of teachers union dues to help fund more Democrat candidates – you know, the ones who run as the “education” candidates.

  8. We get the government we deserve! If you don’t like what Das Williams is doing then STOP voting for the guy. He’s a classic self-serving career politician. His greed for power will only end up hurting our community. Stop falling for these charlatans. Demand better and you’ll get better.

  9. Who are these people donating to Das’ PAC?
    Jantonia Mace, Carpinteria – $3,000
    Michael J Palmer – $5,000
    Matthew Russell – $3,000
    Lauren Bopp – $2,000
Jonathan Graehl, Newbury Park – $3,000
Kyle Graehl, San Francisco – $3,000
    Stuart Suskauer – Westlake Village – $2,600
People, that’s in the LAST 24 hours. What the heck?????

  10. Pacific Coast Enterprises out of La Jolla donated $2,000 to Das’ Independent Expenditure PAC. They make “Happy Sticks” so you can vape your favorite strain.
Why do out-of-area cannabis companies want Das as SB County supervisor so badly?
    What is going on here?

  11. HAHA–no, just kidding, because I know you won’t actually demand transparency across the board.
So, I just spent five minutes and OH MY GOD WHAT IS GOING ON WITH CAPPS’ FUNDING DONORS???!!
Who the heck is Harold Ickes from Washington DC and why is he spending money in my district to elect a candidate?!
    Also how about:
Joel and Trudy Wolfe from Thousand Oaks
    Ernest Crane from Arizona
    Dan Emmett from Los Angeles
Julie Eddie Rokata from Washington DC
    Jim Bruner from Davis
    Tobi Wax from Beverly Hills
    Christina Kasper from Toledo Ohio
    Alfonso Guida from Washington DC
    Donald Chookasian from Glenview IL
This is literally from only four pages of disclosures and there are MANY MORE.
So, please, all you Capps supporters, stop with the nonsense hypocrisy about how Das is getting out of area money. Yes, he is. I don’t like it. But I really don’t like the Capps people trying to spin things as if she isn’t doing EXACTLY WHAT Das is doing.
But somehow she is a “reformer”. HAHAHAHAHAH!!! But, wait, she and her supporters will tell you, she is only going to take dirty money “this time” and once she is elected she will just clean that whole system right up.
    Come on.

  12. Here is the link to the campaign donor disclosures filed with the County of Santa Barbara as required by law, and thank God we have these laws or Laura’s supporters would get away with their nonsense spin.
Or maybe a lot of them just don’t know what their candidate is really doing.
