Do you know if Gibraltar road off of east Camino Cielo to Gibraltar reservoir is open? If so, what type of vehicle is recommended?
Also, what are off roading opportunities in the area?

Let’s hope not. Our environment doesn’t need more destructive activities like offroad driving.
To clarify, there is a locked gate on the Gibraltar road dirt offshoot from E. Camino (I assume you’re referring to the road just past the Tunnel Trail entrance). This is different than the gate I mentioned above which is at the end of E. Camino that drops you down into a different section of back country. Either way, no access to Gib reservoir in a vehicle.
The vast majority of trail users abide by the “tread lightly” mantra, and are driving on trails that have existed for many years. I’d hardly call it destructive. Should give it a try sometime…just might have a good time!
Anyone who’s seen an offroad area knows just how laughable that is.
Honestly the offroaders, and others that use trails that you may never see. actually are the BEST protectors of those trails. as they want them to stay. lets not be so judgie.
Huh. Have a look at Camuesa Road near Middle Santa Ynez Camp- the evidence for rampant destruction at the hands of motorcyclists is impossible to ignore. Anyone who pretends those motor people are good stewards of the environment is either deluded or delusional.
