Construction on the Cabrillo Blvd. bridge was officially completed earlier this week, with a grand opening on Tuesday.
It took almost three years of construction and $26 million dollars. Local leaders celebrated the opening with a ribbon-cutting ceremony by Mayor Helene Schneider.
Traffic congestion has been a struggle for motorists at the State Street intersection and entrance to Stearns Wharf, and surrounding businesses took a hit too.
Although, the new bridge is now upgraded to meet all structural and earthquake safety guidelines, as well as improved water flow and flood control into Mission Creek.
