Santa Barbara County Firefighters responded to a small brush fire off Highway 101 southbound near the Fairview offramp on Saturday afternoon.
Two engines responded at 3:57 p.m. as smoke was visible throughout the Goleta area. Crews located the fire near a homeless camp and promptly extinguished it.
There were no injuries.

The homeless starting all these fires; soon we’ll all be homeless, too. Thank you vagrant homeless. Many fire starts during last few weeks. When is enough…enough?
Maybe the City and County need to start issuing fire extinguishers to the “unsheltered.”
The Painted Cave Fire was small, but with a gusty wind behind it, it morphed into a monster that moved quickly. It burned out the housing area on the hill, jumped Foothill, burned another densely populated area and jumped 101 in about an hour. Imagine the scenario with an upslope fire from one of these vagrant camps by the railroad: Whole housing areas would be indefensible. With a gusting wind blowing embers, fire brands and enough heat to start spontaneous combustion, every housing area north of the railroad tracks could burn. A scheduled running/biking event along Cathedral Oaks with police stationed along the route screws up traffic for hours. A panicked population leaving en masse from this area would be impossible. People would die in place as if Mt. Etna erupted.
LUVADUCK. I agree with you. The winds up north over night, 80+ mph gusts. Alpine Meadows, Tahoe, 103mph. It’s so gusty right now over Kincaid Fire that the fixed wing aircraft can’t fly — too dangerous. If we get those winds, and couple them with homeless lighting arson fires, we’re all homeless.
