We need to start linking specific COSTS to taxpayers for each of these incidents. For example, what is a fair cost estimate of this one incident (multiple are happening every day). News flash, it’s thousands of dollars each… that’s an estimate, but a low one. And the money is all wasted, and deeply needed.
Why are cost estimates for response so important? Not so we can say, “Hey, homeless people cost $$$, get rid of them” … but because we can then specifically argue for how stupid our current system is… where we are running up real costs, helping no one, and our bureaucrats and politicians do nothing because it’s a political hot potato.
Specificity matters.
