A 5-acre brush fire with the potential to grow sparked at the Vandenberg Air Force Base (VAFB) on Friday morning.
Named the Ensalada Fire, Santa Barbara County firefighters are assisting VAFB fire crews with a brush fire on their main base, off El Rancho Road and just south of Casmalia.
Santa Barbara County crews responded at 9:10 a.m. with four engines, one battalion chief, two dozers, one hand crew, and one helicopter, said Public Information Officer Mike Eliason.
The initial report of the fire is estimated to be at 5 acres but with significant potential to grow.
