Broken Gas Pipe Evacuates Area of Solvang

A ruptured gas line forced an area of Solvang to be evacuated on Wednesday afternoon.

At 2:22 p.m., Santa Barbara County Firefighters responded to the area of Mission Drive and Alamo Pintado, behind the New Frontier grocery store.

Construction work was taking place in the area when a 2 inch gas main was ruptured. Firefighters evacuated the area, including the grocery store, while CHP and Sheriff’s Deputies are blocking surrounding roadways, said Fire Captain Dave Zaniboni.

The gas is continuing to leak while crews await the arrival of Southern California Gas Company to shut off the gas and repair the leak.

[Editor’s Note: An earlier version of this article reported that PG&E was responsible to repair the gas leak. It has been updated to accurately reflect Southern California Gas Company]
