Santa Barbara County’s Bomb Squad responded to a “suspicious package” outside the Sheriff’s Headquarters on Monday morning.

Around 10:30 a.m., the Bomb Squad responded to 4434 Calle Real to inspect a backpack that was left near the building.

“No evacuations were necessary. The abandoned backpack was safely opened and found to be personal items,” according to the Sheriff’s Public Information Officer Raquel Zick.

The scene was cleared by 12:30 p.m and normal operations resumed, reports Zick.

  1. How hard would it of been to review who and what possessions had just been released from jail? Police protect each other, creating distrust among the community they serve and now backpacks left in parks and street corners garner more response and news than the very people that are clearly living with only a backpack on there back.
