I am curious to know if anyone has data on injury statistics of bicyclists hit by cars.
This is a town that’s promoting riding your bike around, and I appreciate a few of the new bike lanes it up been put in, but as a faithful reader of Edhat , I also see someone is nailed by a car on a bicycle about once a week.
A 15-year-old was nailed in the intersection near our house a few months ago and suffered brain damage. It would be nice to clearly know statistics, to really be able to weigh the risk of getting on the bicycle to do those local errands.
It seems more people are driving very unconsciously and after seeing that kid get hit by a car near our house, makes me not want to get on my bike anymore.
Great thanks for all the feedback. Yes, we definitely have to be on the defensive and paying attention to the cars, people opening doors when not looking first, etc… when we decide to pedal out.
Looks like your avoiding program is working out well for you.
