Best Wildfire Alerts?

By an edhat reader

I would like to know what Edhatters have found to be the best system for getting warned when there’s a wildfire. Is it Nixle, the county alert system? A phone call from a friend giving you a warning? Wishing for an alert from Roger the Scanner Guy? Or a combination of all?

Having watched the Northern California middle of the night evacuations during firestorms, it’s good to know what you feel is most useful to sign up for reliable warnings for wildfires only. I live in the county of S.B., between Goleta and Santa Barbara (unincorporated Noleta), below the often windy 154 pass.
