Update by Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Office
June 25, 2021
The Sheriff’s Office Compliance Response Team (CRT) has taken a wanted suspect safely into custody after he barricaded himself inside an apartment in Santa Maria. At approximately 7:00 a.m. yesterday, members of CRT served an arrest warrant at the residence of 42-year-old Miguel Alcazar in the 300-block of East Enos. Deputies had attempted to contact Alcazar two weeks earlier during a traffic stop where Alcazar fled, causing a pursuit. This pursuit was terminated in the interest of public safety after Alcazar failed to stop at stop signs and drove the wrong way into opposing traffic, endangering the motoring public.
When detectives arrived yesterday, entry was made into the residence, however Alcazar refused to surrender. A semi-automatic rifle was immediately visible to detectives in the room Alcazar was last know to be in. Deputies set a perimeter around the apartment and vacated surrounding and affected residences for their safety.
Santa Maria Police Officers and the Sheriff’s Special Enforcement Team (SET) responded to assist in taking Alcazar into custody. A search of each attached residence was conducted to ensure all unrelated civilians had been evacuated. While they were attempting to have him surrender, Alcazar gained access to a neighboring residence through an attic crawl space. Members of SET located Alcazar in a neighboring residence and took him into custody safely and uninjured at 11:19 a.m.
A search of the residence revealed two un-serialized (ghost gun) semi-automatic rifles, a semi-automatic pistol, ammunition, heroin, fentanyl, and methamphetamine. Alcazar was transported to the Santa Barbara County Jail where he was booked for being a felon in possession of a firearm (felony), obstructing a peace officer (misdemeanor), burglary (felony), prohibited person in possession of ammunition (felony), possession of a controlled substance for sale (felony), possession of a baton (felony), and a warrant for a violation of Post Release Supervision. Alcazar is being held without bail.
