In February we set out on an adventure of a lifetime to Baja California, Mexico in search of whales. We joined a group that travels to the remote coves where the gray whales gather in winter to mate and give birth.
Here are a few preview photos of our travel experience.
The group is called Baja Airventures and they are unique for offering air travel to this remote location
As promised, we encountered whales up close and personal. It will be hard to do another whale watching trip after this!
It was also a chance to see other wildlife up close, including quite a few ospreys like this one holding a fish
After that we travelled over land to the Sea of Cortez. Under ideal conditions we could get to our final destination by boat. But conditions were less than ideal at times…
Nevertheless, they got us to their secret hideaway on the Sea of Cortez for more adventures. Including snorkeling

And collecting oysters for dinner
This coming Friday March 8 I will be giving a slide show for the Sierra Club on our adventures in Baja.
What: Slide show following the Friday evening Sierra Club hike
When: Friday March 8
The potluck usually starts around 8:45PM and I will begin showing the slides as soon as everyone has their food and is seated.
Where: Main Theater of the Valle Verde Retirement Center at 900 Calle de Los Amigos in Santa Barbara. There is free parking in front of the theater and on the street.
Feel free to come for the hike (meets at the Mission at 6PM) and the dinner or just come for the slide show!
