Summer is here once again, and with the warm weather ASAP Cats (ASAP) is brimming with cats and kittens. Relying on the community’s support to find foster and forever homes for these felines, ASAP will be hosting various adoption events throughout the summer — their next being July 30th from 10am-3pm — but you need not wait until one to find your newest furry friend.
“We rely on our community to come serve as volunteers at the shelter,” says Shelter Operations Supervisor Becky Morrill, “and, perhaps most importantly, to provide loving homes for all of our ASAP cats.” With dozens of cats and kittens recently surrendered to the shelter, finding homes for them is of the utmost importance for the ASAP team. Whether these cats get the chance to try out life beyond the shelter walls in a foster home or they find their “purrfect” match and join a new family, giving them a home is an essential component of the ASAP mission. “A home is the best gift you can give a cat,” says Morrill.
Wondering how to help? Spread the word to any friends, family, or acquaintances who have it in their heart to save a cat’s life and make a new best friend in the process. New adopters receive more perks than just a fantastic new family member: ASAP also provides food and a wand toy, as well as microchipping, vaccination, and spaying/neutering. Even after adopting from ASAP, the relationship doesn’t end there; ASAP provides resources such as veterinary care in the first two weeks after adoption and lifelong behavioral support to ensure the cat’s lifestyle and happiness is maintained.
In addition to an abundance of cats and kittens, ASAP is looking to add more volunteers to its shelter staff. Offering plenty of training — including cleaning procedures, cat behavior and handling, and ASAP policies — volunteers have a chance to work directly with felines in need, garnering plenty of love from the cats and kittens whose lives they have changed for the better.
ASAP Cats is an organization dedicated to saving the lives of cats in Santa Barbara County by providing shelter, veterinary care, behavioral support, adoption and foster services, education, and community outreach.
