Animals Sheltered During the Thomas Fire

Over 1,500 animals of all kinds have been sheltered locally in Santa Barbara as a result of the Thomas Fire – even one Chinchilla. Horses, mini horses, goats, llamas and alpacas. Dogs, cats, chickens, rabbits, ducks, guinea pigs and a water monitor.

Animal shelter locations and totals are as follows:

  • Santa Barbara Humane Society: 762 animals (at capacity)
  • Santa Barbara County Animal Services Shelter: 65 animals (capacity for more available)
  • Earl Warren Show Grounds: 613 animals (capacity for more available)
  • El Capitan Ranch: 73 animals (capacity for more available)
