While the air quality has significantly improved in Santa Barbara, officials are still warning about hazardous contaminants.
As of Tuesday morning, December 19, the air quality in Santa Barbara County is registered as “Moderate” in the cities of Santa Barbra, Goleta and Santa Ynez. All other areas are registering as “Good” as of 9:00 a.m.
However, the Air Quality Warning remains in effect. While air quality conditions have improved since the previous week, there are concerns about winds stirring up ash. When the Air Quality Warning is downgraded or cancelled, a new advisory will be issued.
It’s being advised that residents continue to wear their masks and avoid activities that can stir up ash. As mentioned previously, do not use leaf blowers.
A yellow “Moderate” rating indicates air quality is acceptable, however, for some pollutants, there may be a moderate health concern for a very small number of people who are unusually sensitive to air pollution. A green “Good” rating indicates air quality is considered satisfactory and air pollution poses little to no threat.
