Update by Amtrak
January 19, 2018
Since train tracks reopened on Thursday, January 11, 2018, following the devastating mudslides near Montecito, the Pacific Surfliner has served as the only viable ground transportation option for thousands of people between Ventura and Santa Barbara counties. In response to the unprecedented demand for train travel in the area, 15 additional railcars were secured from throughout the state to add more than 2,000 seats to the 10 daily Pacific Surfliner trains serving Santa Barbara County.
Even with the additional railcars, which have been operating since Sunday, January 14, Pacific Surfliner trains remain extremely busy, with demand exceeding available seating capacity on many trains. The added roundtrip will supplement the existing Pacific Surfliner service by adding nearly 1,000 more seats and providing an additional travel option into Santa Barbara County until the reopening of Highway 101.
Service Details: Schedules for the two new trains are listed below, and will include stops at Camarillo, Oxnard, Ventura, Carpinteria and Santa Barbara. Due to the high demand for train transportation, passengers should continue to expect busy trains and plan accordingly. Minor delays are expected due to personnel working near the railroad and continued cleanup efforts.

Update by Amtrak
January 14, 2018
Since train tracks reopened on Thursday, January 11, 2018, the Pacific Surfliner has served as the only viable ground transportation option between Ventura and Santa Barbara counties, as drive time on alternate routes between the two counties can take nearly four hours. The Pacific Surfliner travels between Ventura and Santa Barbara in approximately 45 minutes.
Due to the limited transportation options, Pacific Surfliner trains have been extremely busy, with demand exceeding available seating capacity. Extra railcars that had already been added to select Pacific Surfliner trains for the past two days using available equipment are being supplemented by the arrival of eight additional railcars and three locomotives from northern California, which will add up to 270 extra seats per train.

January 11, 2018
The Amtrak® Pacific Surfliner® resumed train service between Ventura and Santa Barbara counties on Thursday morning, after deadly mudslides that shut down the 101 Freeway and closed railroad tracks on Tuesday. As drive time between the two counties could take hours due to the continued closure of the 101, demand for train transportation is anticipated to be high, so passengers should expect busy trains and plan accordingly.

Service Details: The railroad tracks have re-opened between Oxnard and Santa Barbara. Pacific Surfliner trains are operating through the area, serving Ventura, Carpinteria, Santa Barbara, Goleta, San Luis Obispo, and all other stations as indicated on the schedule. Please expect delays as trains travel through the affected areas.
Because of the closures to the US 101 through Montecito, all Amtrak Thruway bus service remains cancelled between Oxnard and Santa Barbara through Monday, January 15. Amtrak Thruway bus service between Santa Barbara and San Luis Obispo is not affected, and continues to operate as a connection to Pacific Surfliner trains.
