The first week in November will be the eighth annual light distribution of the Santa Barbara Bicycle Coalition (SBBIKE’s). Iluminando La Noche (Light Up the Night) aims to ensure those who bicycle aren’t riding in the dark. To that end, free bicycle lights will be shared with all low-income riders in need who come to the designated giveaway spots
Light giveaway locations/dates are:
- Wednesday, Nov 7 (5–6:30pm) – Goleta, 5679 Hollister (Goleta Valley Community Center)
- Thursday, Nov 8 (5–6:30pm) – Westside (628 W. Micheltorena)
- Friday, Nov 9 (5–6:30pm) – Eastside (Milpas and Cota)
On each of these evenings, SBBIKE volunteers, many bilingual, will talk to bicycle commuters about bicycle safety, discussing important issues like California laws, being predictable, being visible, and so on. In addition, all riders will receive a gift card for one free hour at Bici Centro, the DIY community bike shop located at 434 Olive Street. There, they can use stands and tools to make repairs or tune up their bikes and transition to longer-lasting rechargeable bike lights.
SBBIKE wants to ensure that no one who bikes has to do so in the dark. The coalition works to increase all commuters’ visibility, both on the roads and at decision-making tables. Learn more at www.sbbike.org/bicicentro.
