5G in Santa Barbara and Goleta

By an edhat reader

I believe Verizon and AT&T turned on 5G networks Wednesday. Does anyone know if our areas have 5G now?

  1. they aren’t installed in town….5G towers only transmit 50feet, so you would have to have an array of them really close to your home, which is proven a massive health hazard. i work near Tmobile downtown, they will tell you the same, there is no 5G here nor will there be. ok correction…we have 1 in town near micheltorena. it broadcasts like all other 5G waves, just 50feet.

  2. also, they haven’t turned them on because the local, state, and federal governments (as well as all others on the globe) are against it. they have been trying to turn them on at airports yesterday and were unsuccessful. all major airlines have penned letters to the GOV requesting delays or complete stays. 5G will mess wtih airplanes altimeters. know what that means? pilots can’t tell how far they are from the ground….boom. i kid you not.

  3. I heard last night on the news that there hadn’t been problems in Europe with 5G and airplanes because they use 5G at 1/2 the transmit power used in the U.S. Too much 5G power can mess with an airplane’s altimeter. Airplanes may need to be updated with better shielding from all the electronic signals. Also, I’ve read that 5G acts like an uncovered microwave oven that zaps birds in near proximity. Pluses and minuses with technology…. 😮

  4. SBGuy, no you don’t…..
your phone is a 5G phone but your service is 4G and 3 and LTE. Just like the rest of us. Unless you live near the financial district in LA, you won’t be getting it. SB has decided not to have them installed. but its ok! believe what you like. no harm in that at all.

  5. Jak, I read that besides higher powered antennas in the US, the antenna is angled vs. straight up and down which, was new info to some airlines (so they claimed). How would the angle of the antenna mess with the instruments, which on an airplane on approach are always banking/pitching anyway?
