A 4.6 magnitude earthquake struck near Malibu on Friday afternoon prompting a little jolt to be felt on the South Coast.
The quake hit approximately 7.45 miles northwest of Malibu at 1:47 p.m. at a depth of nearly nine miles.
An series of aftershocks followed minutes later ranging from 3.0 to 2.6 magnitudes between 1:49 and 1:51 p.m.
The National Weather Service has confirmed there are no tsunami warnings and no anticipated danger from the earthquakes.
The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) is compiling reports from as far north as Santa Cruz and south into Ensenada, Mexico.
Edhat readers were quick to respond with similar reports.
“A few quick jolts just a few minutes ago, was that an earthquake?” and “Something big just caused my overhead lamp to swing!”
So far there have not been reports of damage near the epicenter.
A friend in LA has an app on his phone and got a warning. He shouted to some workers on the roof of his house to hang on, earthquake. It gave a 25 second warning and they all felt it.
Felt it downtown in my office! Others near me didn’t seem to notice it.
