30 Acre Brush Fire Breaks Out in Cuyama

A 30-acre brush fire broke out off Highway 166 near Cuyama on Saturday evening.

At 9:24 p.m., Santa Barbara County firefighters responded to the 5400 block of Highway 166, just west of Cuyama, and found a fast moving grass fire burning in the area.

As of 10:50 p.m., the fire burned approximately 30 acres in light brush and grass. Fire crews have stopped forward progress and will remain on scene to gain full containment over night, said Fire Captain Dave Zaniboni.

Structures were threatened in Cuyama, but none of them were damaged or destroyed, said Zaniboni.

There were no injuries reported and the cause is under investigation.
